How to Get Pregnant When You Have Endometriosis

Endometriosis is a painful condition in which the endometrium (the tissue that lines the uterus) develops outside of the uterus. With endometriosis this tissue grows on the pelvic organs, (the ovaries, fallopian tubes, and the pelvic lining) inside the body cavity.
The tissue acts just as it would if it were lining the uterus, it thickens then breaks down and bleeds during menstruation. However, since it cannot escape the body it causes pelvic pain and complications during menstruation. It can also attribute to infertility. It also causes cysts on the ovaries called endometriomas. It is difficult to diagnose endometriosis as it must be diagnosed by diagnostic laparoscopic surgery.

What can you do when you have Endometriosis

If you suffer from endometriosis and wish to become pregnant all is not lost. If you are under age 35 you should try to become pregnant naturally for about 6 months first. If you are unsuccessful then you should see a fertility specialist for advice.
The severity of endometriosis is rated in stages 1 through 4. For women with the lower stages 1-2, pregnancy can often be achieved with fertility drugs like clomid or gonadotropins in conjunction with IUI (intrauterine insemination).
If pregnancy is not successful with fertility drugs and IUI, or if you are stage 3-4, you may need to undergo IVF procedures. For those with the more advanced stages of endometriosis surgery to remove endometrial deposits and cysts may improve their chances of becoming pregnant.

What are your odds of pregnancy success with Endometriosis

Pregnancy rates for those with endometriosis who utilized fertility drugs and IUI are about 3 times higher than those who tried to conceive naturally. Pregnancy rates for those with endometriosis who underwent IVF procedures were about 5 times higher than those who tried to conceive naturally. However, pregnancy success through IVF for those with endometriosis is slightly lower than for those with different fertility issues.
