How to Get Pregnant When You Have Endometriosis
Endometriosis is a painful condition in which the
endometrium (the tissue that lines the uterus) develops outside of the uterus. With
endometriosis this tissue grows on the pelvic organs, (the ovaries, fallopian
tubes, and the pelvic lining) inside the body cavity.
The tissue acts just as it would if it were lining
the uterus, it thickens then breaks down and bleeds during menstruation.
However, since it cannot escape the body it causes pelvic pain and complications
during menstruation. It can also attribute to infertility. It also causes cysts
on the ovaries called endometriomas. It is difficult to diagnose endometriosis
as it must be diagnosed by
diagnostic laparoscopic surgery.
What can you do when you have Endometriosis
If you suffer
from endometriosis and wish to become pregnant all is not lost. If you are
under age 35 you should try to become pregnant naturally for about 6 months
first. If you are unsuccessful then you should see a fertility specialist for
advice.
The severity of endometriosis is rated in stages 1
through 4. For women with the lower stages 1-2, pregnancy can often be achieved
with fertility drugs like clomid or gonadotropins in conjunction with IUI
(intrauterine insemination).
If pregnancy is not successful with fertility drugs
and IUI, or if you are stage 3-4, you may need to undergo IVF procedures. For
those with the more advanced stages of endometriosis surgery to remove
endometrial deposits and cysts may improve their chances of becoming pregnant.
What are your odds of pregnancy success with Endometriosis
Pregnancy rates for those with endometriosis who
utilized fertility drugs and IUI are about 3 times higher than those who tried
to conceive naturally. Pregnancy rates for those with endometriosis who
underwent IVF procedures were about 5 times higher than those who tried to
conceive naturally. However, pregnancy success through IVF for those with
endometriosis is slightly lower than for those with different fertility issues.

Dealing With the Emotions of IVF
The decision to start a family is a big one, and it
should not be taken lightly. Imagine how distressing it would be to find out
after deciding that you wish to start a family that it isn’t going to “just
happen” as it does so often for others. There is still hope though. Through IVF
you can still have that family you desire.
Emotional ride
Once you have spoken to your fertility doctor and
have learned what to expect physically with IVF treatments, you should prepare
yourself for the emotional aspect.
Beyond the fact that infertility and IVF procedures
can be an emotional experience unto themselves, you also need to understand
that the medications used for the IVF treatments can cause your hormones to
take a ride, and along with them your emotions.
You are not alone
Keep in mind though that during these difficult
times you never have to be alone with your worries and fears. There are support
groups both online and in person that you can join and gain emotional support
from people that are going through, or have gone through what you are going
through.
You can also receive beneficial guidance from a
personal therapist if you are uncomfortable with airing your personal feelings
among a group of strangers. Friends and family can often be a valuable
emotional crutch when you need someone to talk to.
They may not fully understand what you are going
through but they love and care about you and so will lend a sympathetic ear in
your times of need. Whichever path you choose it is wise not to bottle up these
emotions but rather let them out so you can deal with them.

Geriatric Pregnancy: Child Birth after Menopause
A woman’s “prime” fertility is around the age of 25
years, plus or minus a few years. However she can become pregnant anytime after
her first ovulation cycle up until her last ovulation cycle, then she hits
menopause (usually around age 50 give or take a few years). The oldest woman to
give birth was in her late 60’s, so anything is possible really.
Movie star Halle Berry gave birth at age 47 stating
that she thought it wasn’t possible to become pregnant again at that age.
Joining her in this miracle are actresses Jennifer Aniston who also became
pregnant at age 47, and Kelly Preston also 47 years of age. Preston is quoted touting
the “marvels of modern medicine” that enabled her to conceive at an age nearing
menopause.
What is Menopause
Menopause is the time in a woman’s life when her
ovulation cycle has ceased and she can no longer become pregnant. This usually
happens around age 50, but it can occur much earlier or even much later. It is
typically considered that it has occurred when you haven’t ovulated for 12
months.
It is often accompanied with mood swings, hot
flashes, urinary complications, vaginal bleeding, fatigue, vaginal dryness, osteoporosis,
and heart disease. Treatment varies with the individuals needs.
Pregnancy after Menopause
It is not possible to become pregnant naturally
after menopause. However a woman can still become pregnant after menopause
through In Vitro Fertilization. Since a woman no longer produces eggs after
menopause she will have to either use donor eggs or to have previously frozen
her own eggs prior to reaching menopause.
If you are a cancer patient about to undergo
chemotherapy you may want to have your eggs frozen for future use due to the
fact that chemotherapy can cause sterility. Likewise, if you have not had
children, or think you may want more later in life, then you might want to
consider freezing your own eggs to use in IVF procedures.
